Tour description Berlin Potpourri bike tour

This tour was created for visitors spending a short time in Berlin, who already know the main touristic sights but are interested in seeing other intriguing places.

Five parts of Berlin widely differing from each other are waiting for you. You learn about “Barrack style tenements“ in Prenzlauer Berg, then you are confronted with typical GDR tenement blocks made of prefabricated concrete slabs in Hohenschönhausen. You pass places lesser-known than Reichstag & Co., which are equally worth a visit. From the Zeiss Planetarium over numerous small stops you get to the huge premises of our former municipal slaughterhouse, a thriving housing and nonresidential complex of historic and contemporary buildings now. You enter the Sportforum Hohenschönhausen, where many successful German Olympic athletes and champions like Franzi van Almsick trained or train. It was the home of the Berlin Ice Bears (Member of the German Ice Hockey League) before they moved to the O2 World (now: Mercedes World). The foodball club BFC Dynamo (GDR champions) also played here till recently. The most famous stop on our trip is perhaps the compound of the former Stasi detention centre which covers several hectares. Roughly 11.000 political prisoners were incarcerated there against their rights. The site is now a museum. The way back runs past breweries to a beautiful chain of lakes. Our last stop on this 4-hour tour is a multifaceted performance venue (well-known even outside of Berlin) named Brotfabrik (Bread Factory). Nearby, the  former cinema “Delphi“ reminds of the Golden Twenties, when Weißensee was a legendary production centre of silent movies.
